Two female police officers who were witnessed firsthand the
incident involving television host Billy Joe Crawford at Police
Community Precinct 7 in Taguig last Sunday broke their silence over what
happened.
According to PO1 Rodelma Canao and
PO1 Jasmine Zipagan, Crawford arrived at the station asking to be
detained. After being told that there were no detention cells in the
station, Crawford demanded to be taken to the headquarters.
The actor got frustrated after being told that there were no mobile cars available that time, then flew into a rage.
"Nagbilang sa mukha ko ng lima, kung wala pa raw mobile, sisirain na
niya ang office," said Canao in an interview with Marisol Abduraman on
"24 Oras" on Tuesday.
Crawford then managed to break a sliding glass door at the station.
Contrary to Crawford's pronouncements, the officers claimed that he pushed them.
"Naitulak din po ako pero na-control ko na 'di bumagsak dahil puro bubog ang sahig," Zipagan explained.
The police officers said they were dismayed because of the lack of
respect from the actor, as well as the subsequent statements of
Crawford's lawyer.
According to Crawford's legal
counsel Atty. Jose Aspiras, he had gone to the station to ask for help
and was frustrated after not receiving assistance from the officers.
But Canao and Zipagan both insisted that they did what they should have done.
"Ginawa namin ang trabaho namin,” Canao said.
"Pwede ba namin siyang hindi tulungan kung nagsabi siya?” Zipagan added.
Southern Police District Director Jose Erwin Villacorte backed the two
officers, saying that standard operating procedures were followed in
Crawford's case.
In a phone interview, Aspiras stands by the claim that Crawford did not intend to hurt anyone.
Earlier, the actor admitted that he went to the police station to be
detained so he could not proceed to hurting anyone. He denied hurting
any officer during the incident.
Crawford has
been charged with disobedience and malicious mischief on Sunday, and was
able to post bail on Monday with a P6,000 fine. — Bianca Rose Dabu/JST, GMA News
